The Brownsville Herald is celebrating National Poetry
Month* with a poetry contest. Anyone 18 or older who
lives in The Herald circulation area may enter.
Contest Rules:
Poems may be submitted at The Herald office or online. The deadline for entries is 5 p.m. on
Wednesday, April 15th and winning poems will be announced with publication
on Sunday, April 26th. There will be first, second and third prizes awarded.
Each individual may submit one original poem (English or Spanish) that has not been previously
published or has not previously won an award or prize. Poems can be illustrated but is not
required.
Poets may write on any topic that is suitable for a general audience. Poems must be no more
than 20 lines and can be in any style. Poems mailed or dropped off at The Herald offices must
be typed in plain typeface.
Poems will be judged on creativity, artistic quality, and previously-stated guidelines. Any poem
that does not follow the guidelines will be disqualified.
Poems will not be returned. Please keep a copy for yourself.

Each poem must include name, address, daytime telephone number, email address,
and title of the entry.
